Training set ups and challenges.

 

Scent work training seems easy...until it's not! Scent work is a sport where it is very easy to add layers of difficulty too quickly, and if our dogs can quite work out the scent puzzle, we step in and show them! I know, I know - you all know not to point it out with your finger, but any movement towards the hide is "pointing it out"!

By introducing concepts and skill sets slowly but surely, we build a strong behaviour chain, and it all starts with teaching a clean loop with an unobstructed, accessible hide.

The next step I take is to build in more challenges in getting to source with my all-time favourite type of hide for building focus and determination in our dogs by now making the hide obstructed in some way. This setup gives us an infinite number of setups we can create for our dogs, whether the goal is enrichment, therapy, or competition!
